Finland does have high environmental standards but the main environmental issues there include the decline of forest biodiversity due to intensive logging, agricultural nutrient run off causing water eutrophication, high per-capita material consumption, and the localized health impacts of fine particulate matter from wood burning
About Hanna
Hanna Höijer is a political advocate and climate activist working in a variety of roles strengthening her generation’s voice in decision-making processes about their future.
Most notably, she has been engaged in the UN climate negotiations, first as an expert member of the Finnish National Delegation and now as the lead for a delegation of Nordic youth. Hanna’s other work has involved working in energy sector consulting, school curriculum shaping, and at the European Parliament. Additionally, she was recognized as the Young Changemaker of the Year 2024 for a 600-person Youth Climate Summit she organized.
More recently, Hanna shifted to leveraging storytelling into her work, where she co-founded a non-profit production company. The non-profit, named CRUX, is dedicated to documenting some of the most incredible youth-led movements across the world to empower a new generation of climate activists, and is currently filming the first iteration of that project this summer across Sub-Saharan Africa.
